Art Show
Thank you to ArmadilloCon for working alongside the 2011 World Horror Convention planning committee to make this convention a reality! The stellar organizational team for the 32nd ArmadilloCon has generously allowed us to use the display boards they personally use in their own art show for ours! For more information on ArmadilloCon, which will be August 25-27 of 2010 in Austin, Texas, please visit www.armadillocon.org!

We’re hashing out a bunch of the details. So check back often. To be kept current on the WHC2011 Art Show and other dark art events, artists and opportunities, head over to spookyART.com (managed by Chad Savage, newly-created after his old dark artists’ discussion list died in 2009).
Chad Savage is our Art Show Director, you can contact him at savage@worldhorrorconvention.com
ART SUBMISSION:
The WHC2011 Art Show is now accepting submissions from artists wishing to participate. Please visit http://worldhorrorconvention.com/faqs-art-show/ and follow the instructions provided to submit your artwork to the jury process (if you haven’t already).
TO BE CLEAR: Artists who wish to participate in the WHC2011 Art Show must be juried. However, if you are an artist who has EVER BEEN JURIED IN to a WHC Art Show, you’re good to go – you DO NOT have to be juried again or resubmit your work.
WHC2011 ART SHOW RULES:
- Participating in the Art Show does not grant artists entry into The World Horror Convention 2011. Artists who wish to attend the convention must purchase a Membership.
- Mail-in art : Check back – we’re deciding.
- The World Horror Convention 2011 is a convention geared toward a dark aesthetic and, obviously, horror theme. Artwork shown in the art show should reflect that aesthetic.
- Hanging Fees will be announced soon : We’re working it out
- There will be a 15% commission collected for all art sold through the The World Horror Convention 2011 Art Show.
- You are not required to offer your work for sale (except for work placed in the Print Shop). Any or all of your artwork may be marked “NFS” (Not For Sale).
- Space will be portioned out on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Artwork must be presented in a professional manner. Flat work should be matted, framed or both. We will provide low-tack artist tape with which to attach bid sheets to each piece. Your work will be hung from hooks; please be sure that your work has a means by which it may be hung PRIOR TO BRINGING IT TO THE SHOW.
- Artwork must be original work or limited-edition prints. Artwork that violates copyright laws, trademarks or other intellectual property rights will not be permitted to hang.
- All artwork should have artist’s name, title and contact information somewhere on the back, independent of any WHC labeling. If an artist fails to properly label his/her work, The World Horror Convention 2011 cannot be held responsible should it become lost or improperly credited.
- Photography will be limited inside the Art Show Room. Artists will indicate on their Control Sheet whether or not they want to allow photography of or near their work.
- There will be no smoking in the Art Show Room. Food/Beverages will only be permitted during the reception.
- Blatantly pornographic or racist artwork will not be permitted to hang. You know the difference, and so do we. Behave.
- There will be a Print Shop for artists to sell prints of their work (50 prints maximum). The World Horror Convention 2011 will charge a 15% commission for prints sold through the print shop, and a $5.00 placement fee per artist. Please label your prints clearly on the back, including price. Failure to do so may result in incorrect accounting of your sales.
- Artwork will be sold via Silent Auction. Each piece will have a Bid Sheet. Attendees who wish to bid/purchase will log their bids on the Bid Sheet. The highest bidder at the close of the Art Show on Saturday night will be the winner and may purchase the artwork beginning at noon on Sunday until 3:00 p.m. Each Bid Sheet will have a QuickSale price (similar to eBay’s “Buy It Now” system) which may be used if no bids have been placed and an attendee wants to secure the piece. However, artists are NOT required to include a QuickSale price, if they don’t wish to.
- Payments for sales of artwork and prints will be mailed via check within 30 days after The World Horror Convention 2011. We may also pay you by PayPal if you prefer – stay tuned.
- The World Horror Convention 2011 assumes NO LIABILITY FOR ARTWORK SHOWN. The World Horror Convention 2011 will take every possible precaution to protect each artist’s work, but in the unlikely event of theft, damage, etc., by participating in the Art Show, you do so at your own risk.
- The Art Show Room will be open to artists on Thursday/open to everybody on Friday and Saturday (times pending). Artists may hang their work at any time on Thursday or Friday during open room hours.
- Artists may pick up their work on Sunday between 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Any artist that needs to make special arrangements for art pick-up that falls outside of this timeframe should do so NOW by contacting Chad Savage at savage@worldhorrorconvention.com.
